The 2009 OWAA conference in Grand Rapids, MI. got off to a flying start this morning with a 4-hour marathon crash course in outdoor communications drew 50 attentive participants, many of them students from the Grand Rapids area.
Dubbed “Becoming an Outdoors Communicator,” this session aimed at newcomers but also attended by a handful of veterans looking for a new angle, could easily have been called “Outdoor Writing/TV/Blogging/Radio 101.” Anyone who sat through it got a good boost in the direction of becoming what John “Bubba” Phillips calls a “big-time, full-time freelance outdoor writer.”
One thing attendees learn (some of us the hard way, and repeatedly) is to get enough sleep to be able to take full advantage of the next day’s seminars and activities. Heeding my own advice for once, I’m hitting the sack.
